Using Task Freak

Alright — we're rolling and it's time to start using the Task Manager.

All content developers will have their default projects set to the Content section so you should only ever see Content related tasks unless you look at the other projects manually.

To that end, we all need to know how to use TaskFreak! so here's the 2 minute tutorial that I'm putting together at 8am after 24 hours of not sleeping — hope it makes sense.

When you log into TaskFreak!, you'll be presented with a list of tasks. You can see who's working on what, what percentage it's been completed to and so on. To open a task, simply click on it (anywhere will do). You'll be presented with the following screen:

This is where you can get all the information about a task you want as well as editing the task to update its information. To take a task, you'll need to click on the Edit link. You'll see the following screen when you do:

Here you can edit various parts of the Task. You can update the description, set the priority, chance who's working on the task and so on. The important fields you'll want to pay attention to are the User and Status fields. Select yourself from the dropdown under User and as you work on the task you can update the Status (in increments of 20%). Once you hit 100% the task will automatically move the Past Tasks section so you will no longer need to update it.

In order to post comments, you'll need to click on the Comments tab. From here you'll usually see the "Post First Comment" link but if not there'll be a link there somewhere that'll allow you to post a comment.

The final note is about the priority of a task which can be found in the upper left corner:

This will generally tell you how important a particular task is. In the main task page tasks are grouped first by priority and then alphabetically. Higher priority tasks, naturally, require more attention than lower priority tasks. Content tasks generally won't be set more than 3 or 4.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me! I'll probably update this article more to include more advanced management of yourself and tasks including adding tasks.

Keep in mind that the task manager software is rather intuitive. Don't worry about 'breaking' anything because it's hard to do that— plus, we keep daily backups of all the databases should the worst happen.

Thanks!
